DiskPreserver - the ultimate disk drive conditioner!
The principal causes of failure in evidence drives are bearing de-oiling with subsequent seizure of the rotational motor or head carriage, head stickage, and corrosion on the electronics. The DiskPreserver is a line of extensible products designed to provide periodic activation of drives in long term storage. All DiskPreservers are designed to handle IDE, ATA, PATA, SATA, SCSI, and notebook drives with the appropriate interface modules.
The DiskPreserver Basic will handle up to 8 drives with minimum cost and management overhead.
The DiskPreserver I uses distributed computing and a web interface to provide power cycling for up to 1> 16,384 drives.
The DiskPreserver II builds upon the DiskPreserver I technology and adds a status node for each drive. The status node reads the power curve, any SMART data (which indicates drive failure probability), drive type, drive serial number, and statistics (heads, tracks, etc. as allowed by the technology) and maintains it in local non-volatile ram in addition to transmitting the data to the web interface on demand. The web interface allows viewing of drive status, and personality of any drives attached to the system. Via the web interface the user can enter location information, case number, and free form text for use in identifying the drives. The web interface also allows the user to locate a drive by selecting it from the display. Once selected the LEDs/buzzer on the desired drive will be activated.
The DiskPreserver line of products will be unveiled at the CyberCrime Summit 2007, Kennesaw, Ga. Mar 19-22 2007 |
