Do The Numbers!

Technology refresh is a fact of corporate IT and it will continue to be an ongoing process. The new machines are larger than the old machines and the days of the 100GB workstations are upon us! When you prepare your project plans how often are you limited not by headcount but by network bandwidth or space on a back-up server? Your staff has worked hard to optimize the network, provide mission critical bandwidth, and keep the customers happy. Kudos to all! But then along comes technology refresh! Even though everyone is SUPPOSED to keep all work on the network share drive - we know the horrible truth! They keep a local copy "In case the network goes down I can still work!" IT everywhere shares the ensuing nightmare; A) Backup users data to a network drive (only 1 at a time due to bandwidth choking). B) Install & configure new workstation (but not until the backup is complete only 1 user login allowed at a time) C) Restore the users data and flush the LAN backup or keep the users data for X weeks. D) Repeat for users 2-8 on your list for today - if they are still at work! E) Justify overtime and repeat calls!
Using the Tera-Kit changes things!
A) Logoff user - Remove network connection - Back-up to Tera-Kit drive - repeat for users 2-8! B) Install & configure hardware for users 1-8 - take care of their problems while waiting for backups to finish. C) Restore selected data for users 1-8. D) Pack up Migrate-Kit and go to lunch. Fill out paperwork, have another "iced-tea". E) Do tomorrows machines today (our kits will handle multiple users data / drive) - earn bonus!
The curve is well known; the first backup has a maximum throughput of 80% of the slowest link, the second backup now goes for its 80% of the remaining bandwidth, and etc, ... At some point in time even the best switched network saturates! Slow response triggers the flood of calls to the help desk and either the backups have to be terminated to regain bandwidth or ...
Forensic and Security Services has created a product that allows you to refresh desktops not based upon bandwidth but on technician count! For $3995 the Tera-kit provides you with 960 GB of storage on 8 high speed 120Gb USB 2.0 disk drives contained in a lockable, durable plastic case. Easy to inventory, easy to contriol! Each kit allows a technician to backup the contents of 8 user machines while not loading your network! The backups proceed in parallel and the restores to the users new systems can begin immediately. IF having the data available on the network is required then the disks can be copied from a maintenance location during off hours.
In addition the copies allow for offline scanning in order to determine if any prohibited activities have taken place on the replaced systems without having to dedicate the space to bench analyze each of the individual replaced systems.
