Ernesto F. Rojas Inducted into FEWA
Ernesto F. Rojas has been inducted into the Forensic Expert Witness Association, Texas Chapter. FEWA was founded in California in 1994 and expanded into a national organization in 2007. FEWA is dedicated to the professional development, ethics, and promotion of forensic consultants in all fields of disciplines through education of both their members and the public sector.
Ernesto F. Rojas' Teaching Engagements
Ernesto F. Rojas has been invited to train members of the Texas Association of Licensed Investigators at their Mid-Winter Conference in Irving, Texas February 27-28, 2009. He will present "Evidence Identification and Preservation for Electronic Investigators", a 2 hour seminar regarding proper handling of electronic evidence. TALI is a non-profit corporation dedicated to raising professionalism in the field of private investigations through continuing education, public awareness, advanced certification programs, networking, and legislative involvement.
In September, Mr. Rojas taught a class for members of the American College of Forensic Examiners at their National Conference in San Diego, California. This class covered issues regarding the use of electronic evidence and the application of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
Newly Certified CLE Training
Forensic & Security Services kicked off their newly certified CLE training at Looper Reed and McGraw Tuesday, June 24th, 2008. Seventeen attorneys and legal assistants were in attendence and reports indicate that the attendees found the class informative and useful. This new course is entitled Electronic Evidence Admissibility. The course begins with a brief history of electronic evidence and covers issues concerning sources and types of ESI, volatility, preservation, identification of relevant ESI, preservation letters, costs, professional services, admissibility, licensing requirements for ESI collection, and penalties for violations against licensing requirements. Forensic & Security Services Hosted Electronic Evidence Webinar Tuesday, June 17th, 2008
Forensic & Security Services Inc. hosted a webinar for 145 attorneys who, through Advocacy Incorporated, provide pro-bono services for Texans with disabilities. Advocacy Incorporated is a non-profit organization funded by the United States Congress to protect and advocate the rights of Texans with disabilities. The webinar was video cast Tuesday, June 17, 2008 from 10am until Noon. Preparation for a mock case involving electronic evidence was the scene of this webinar, as a panel of experts took the viewers from the meet and confer stage to trial. The webinar’s panel of experts included, Monica W. Latin, Alan F. Blakley, and Ernesto F. Rojas.
Ms. Latin is a partner at Carrington, Coleman, Sloman, & Blumenthal, LLP in Dallas, Texas, practicing in the area of business litigation at the trial and appellate levels in state and federal courts throughout the country. She has received numerous awards for professional excellence and has been specifically recognized for delivering truly outstanding and superior client services. She has been recognized by Texas Monthly magazine as a “Super Lawyer” each year since that award was introduced in 2003. Ms. Latin is an active participant in The Sedona Conference’s working group for electronic document retention and production. She is also a member of the advisory board for the Georgetown University E-Discovery Institute and a frequent speaker on litigation issues relating to electronic discovery and spoliation of evidence.
Mr. Blakley is Senior Consultant for Third Coast Consultants and Charles River Associates International, firms offering consulting services regarding litigation preparedness to law firms and electronic information issues to law firms and corporations, respectively. Mr. Blakley is project manager for Electronic Discovery Reference Model’s Code of Conduct Project. Through EDRM, he works with volunteers from law firms, corporations, software developers, and service providers in the electronic information field to develop model codes of conduct for voluntary adoption. He chairs The Sedona Conference’s board of directors for the working group for protective orders, confidentiality, and public access. Mr. Blakley has fellowship status with the Federal Bar Association and chairs its Federal Career Services Division. He is also a member of the Journal on Legal Technology Risk Management’s editorial board.
Mr. Rojas is CEO of the Houston based Forensic & Security Services Inc., a licensed private investigations firm specializing in computer forensic investigations. He is a licensed private security consultant and a Certified Information Systems Security Professional. Mr. Rojas has conducted numerous computer forensic investigations for cases involving bankruptcy, family law, human resources, intellectual property fraud, and internet fraud. He has fellowship status in The College of Forensic Examiners and is an active participant in The Sedona Conference’s international working group for e-disclosure and information management.
